French Connection had a party in LA last night to celebrate the launch of their A/W 2010 collection. The OC’s Samaire Armstrong sang for her supper wearing a very small outfit consisting of white knee sock, gold sequin shorts and a revealing top. She soon changed into a much lovelier backless white dress only to change into yet another frock later, this time a floor length black gown with a sweeping white fishtail. Lo Bosworth spent the night snogging the face off her boyf all the while looking gorgeous in a wine red beaded number with black peep toes. We love her huge hair bun, very chic. Goodfellas star Jamie Lynn Sigler flaunted her fab bod in a strapless midnight blue mini dress and Louise Roe covered up with dark trousers, a metallic top and a graphic printed jacket.

Glee’s Mark Salling was given a birthday cake with his face on to celebrate his recent 28th birthday. He basically ate himself. We bet he tasted good.

LONDON – British airport operator BAA and the Unite union have reached a deal to prevent a strike at major UK airports.

“We are pleased to report that a basis for settlement has been agreed,” said Acas chief conciliator Peter Harwood.

The strike could have shut six of the country’s major airports this month.

Unite’s national officer Brian Boyd said the union was calling off the threat of strikes while workers vote on the new proposal, details of which will be announced today.

Mr Boyd said: “Unite came to these negotiations with a strong mandate for industrial action.

“In today’s negotiations between Unite and BAA, the assistance of Acas has been constructive, and we are pleased to announce we are calling off strike action at BAA’s six airports.

“Unite’s negotiating committee will recommend a much-improved offer from BAA. Details of the agreement will be made public once BAA staff have been advised of the improved offer.’’

Mr Boyd said he wanted to thank Acas for its help during the “tough negotiations”.

Mr Harwood said the talks had been “challenging” but he was pleased that the basis of a deal had been agreed. “As you would expect, the details of the deal are confidential until the parties report back to their respective constituencies.”

He said Unite, as well as two other unions involved in the dispute, Prospect and the Public and Commercial Services union, would ballot their members with a recommendation to accept, adding: “Acas is pleased at this development and hope that the matter will soon be settled.”

Brendan Gold, national secretary of Unite, said: “We’ve reached a settlement which we are prepared to recommend to our members.

“We will be undertaking a ballot of our members, and that will commence over the next couple of days, and last for probably about three weeks.

“But that recommendation for acceptance we hope our members will listen to, and we are very pleased to be able to reassure the travelling public that we for our side have worked tirelessly to achieve a settlement.”

He said he was confident that the union’s negotiators had reached a recommended settlement that should put an end to any strike threats in the aviation sector of BAA.

Terry Morgan of BAA said: “We believe that the unions are going to recommend acceptance of our offer to their membership, and if that’s the case then we are very, very confident that any disruption to our airport operations has now been avoided, which is very important to us, to make sure that people travelling on holiday and business over the next few weeks can do so with a high degree of confidence that their journeys are not going to be disrupted.”

He said both sides had come out with a deal they were happy with. “I think it’s a deal that is a fair reward for our staff, but it’s also a deal that the company can afford.”

LOS ANGELES – An off-road vehicle plowed into a crowd moments after sailing off a jump at a race in Southern California Saturday night, killing eight people and leaving 12 wounded, authorities and witnesses said.
The accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. at the race called the California 200, said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.
Bachman said 12 people were injured, several seriously. Most were airlifted from the area to Loma Linda University Medical Center or St. Mary's Medical Center.
The race is part of a series held in Soggy Dry Lake Bed near the city of Lucerne Valley in the Mojave Desert, 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
David Conklin, a photographer covering the event for several off-road magazines, said the vehicle was among the first 20 off the line in the race, and had just gone over a jump known as "the rockpile."
Conklin said he watched the vehicle sail through the air then turned to wait for the next one when he heard a commotion.
"I heard screaming and shouting," said Conklin, who ran toward the vehicle. "I saw one woman with a major head wound lying in a pool of blood. Someone else was crushed beneath the car."
The crashed car eventually came to a rest upside down with its oversized wheels pointing toward the sky. It wasn't immediately clear if the driver of the car was among the casualties.
Bachman said the California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation of the crash because it took place in an unincorporated area.
Tens of thousands of people attend the California 200, in which dune buggy-style vehicles take jumps and other obstacles on the off-road course. The crowd gathers next to the track with little-or-no barrier between them and the vehicles.
The crash was the latest in a series of race accidents that have proved deadly to spectators.
A car plowed into a crowd that had gathered to watch an illegal drag race on a suburban road in Accokeek, Maryland, in February 2008, killing eight people and injuring five. The two racers were charged with vehicular manslaughter. Darren Bullock, 22, was senteced to 15 years in prison; Tavon Taylor, 20, is awaiting trial.
In Chandler, Ariz., in February, a female spectator was killed by a tire that flew off a crashing dragster at Chandler's Firebird International Raceway for the NHRA Arizona Nationals.
In Selmer, Tennessee, a dragster went out of control and smashed into spectators during a fundraising festival in June 2007, killing six people and injuring 22. Driver Troy Critchley, 38, was convicted of misdemeanor reckless assault charges and sentenced to 18 months probation.
